29th ANNUAL NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEE TO TAKE PLACE IN WASHINGTON, D.C., MAY 14-17

WHO/WHAT: 2017 National Geographic Bee

Top prize: a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the Society, including a subscription to National Geographic magazine, and an all-expenses-paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the new National Geographic Endeavour ll. Travel for the trip is provided by Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. The final and championship rounds will air on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, May 19.

WHO:  54 state-level winners, ages 10-14, representing all 50 states, District of Columbia, Atlantic Territories, Pacific Territories and Department of Defense Dependents Schools

Preliminaries held in five different rooms; doors open for media at 8:30 a.m.; contest begins at 9 a.m.

Final and championship rounds

*All cameras must pull bugged HD feed from mult-box for final round/question

Both the preliminary and the final/championship rounds last approximately 60-90 minutes. Contestants as well as National Geographic spokespersons will be available for interviews directly after each competition.
